HYPNOTHERAPY
at Meridian
Counseling Center
Clinical hypnosis is a powerful method
of bringing about desired changes in feelings or behavior. It has
proved extremely valuable for individuals wishing to lose weight,
stop smoking, eliminate anxiety, or improve performance. Because the
hypnotic process affects the subconscious mind, changes are automatic,
natural, and lasting. Dr. (Elwell) Payne offers a 15-minute free consultation
for anyone considering hypnotherapy to answer any questions and relieve
any concerns regarding the process.
Usual duration of appointments ranges from just 1 to 10 sessions as
the methods used are powerful and tend to give rapid results.

HYPNOTHERAPY
by Jon Connelly, Ph.D. L.C.S.W.
People who have become discouraged in their attempts to change a behavior
blame lack of self control. Self control means using the conscious
mind to control the subconscious. To understand why self control is
so challenging you have to assess the relative strength of the conscious
and subconscious. Consciously we are only able to do one thing at
a time and then not for very long. How many thoughts are you able
to think at exactly the same time? How long are you able to keep that
one thought in your consciousness? Most people feel they can only
have one thought at a time and then not for very long because their
mind moves on to the next thought. The subconscious mind however can
direct many activities simultaneously. Just think of the things that
are necessary for the person to give the speech or how many different
things your subconscious mind is controlling in order for you to drive
your car through traffic.
Hypnotherapy is the most effective method of gaining access to and
influencing the subconscious mind. A skilled hypnotherapist can help
you bring about desired change not only in the things you do but even
in those things you feel. Long standing habits can be changed and
so can your emotional responses. Many people have overcome phobias,
panic disorder, and problems with controlling their temper. Hypnotherapy
can enable people to move more quickly past the pain from a breakup.
It has helped people with insomnia, depression and sexual problems.
Because the mind has such a strong influence on the body, hypnotherapy
can aid in recovery by reducing physical pain and accelerating healing.
It is an excellent method of eliminating the negative effect that
past events continue to have on emotions, behavior and even health.
Dr. Payne is an associate trainer of Clinical Hypnosis With Rapid Trauma Resolution for the Institute For Sexual Violence (ISSV) with founder Jon Connelly.
